UCLA Staff to Initiate Campus Event Reservation Requests Online
Los Angeles, Calif. -- AMULET Development Corp. has been selected as exclusive Web
site design and database developer for the new UCLA Events Online site. The system
is a secure campus intranet application enabling UCLA department representatives
to initiate campus event reservation requests online. The working title will be
called UCLA Events Online and is being established for the purpose of coordinating
the production of University events.
These events are estimated at over 2,000 annually include the following: World Class
Performing Arts Programs, International Academic Conferences, Student Activities,
Athletic Events, and Fundraising Functions. All of these events are organized and
divided into three units; schools, venues, and events planning department.
The system is both a database of event requests and a series of program actions
that define how the request is treated based upon the data supplied. The system
provides uniform campus information to the applicant regarding campus facilities,
rules, regulations, and special conditions affecting their event request.
The fully developed system will include the following functions:
- Explanation to the applicant of University Event Policies via hyperlinks to the
written policies.
- Explanation to the applicant of event production procedures in the form of a system
generated checklist which will be customized according to the event specific information
on the application.
- Automatic e-mail notification to the required signatories and campus service providers.
- On-line tracking of the application’s status (i.e. confirmed, canceled, or past
due).
- Electronic signatures/authentication to confirm the application and the transfer
of event information from the confirmed application to the master UCLA campus calendar
of events web site.
AMULET’s Role in Development
In building the UCLA Events Online intranet, AMULET will be responsible for all
primary areas of development, including database design, graphic design, static
HTML, client-side programming using JavaScript, server-side Active Server Pages
(ASP) programming, Active Server components written in Visual Basic 6.0, integrated
e-mail generation and distribution, and SQL Server 7.0 database administration.
During the development process, AMULET will host a staging site on an in-house Web
server.
